Pina Carmirelli‘s pivotal breakthrough occurred when she secured the first prize, the Premio Stradivari, at the International Competition in Cremona in May 1937. This notable accomplishment coincided with the 200th anniversary of Antonio Stradivarius’s death, affording her the opportunity to undertake a recital tour encompassing all major cities in her country. Subsequently, she maintained regular performances in Italy and Germany even during World War II, as both Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy sought to utilize music for political purposes. Post-1945, her engagements expanded to include all major orchestras in Italy and leading orchestras in Europe. In 1949, she diversified her career by engaging in both solo performances and chamber groups. Following the passing of her husband, cellist Arturo Bonucci, in 1964, with whom she founded Quintetto Boccherini, Carmirelli resumed her solo career and embarked on concert tours across major cities in Europe and North America. From this period, four radio recordings made in Germany and Switzerland emerged, which are published for the first time.
