Legendary French Pianists ∙ The Swiss Recitals ∙ 2CD

13.99

This marks the second joint release of Madeleine de Valmalète and Monique Haas in our ‘Legendary French Pianists’ series. Both received their education at the Paris Conservatory; however, they pursued different careers in terms of their level of renown and influence on subsequent generations of pianists. While Haas, who was ten years younger, had made extensive commercial recordings and was a regular presence on major concert platforms worldwide, as well as frequently appearing on radio broadcasts, Valmalète remained largely unnoticed by record companies and rarely appeared on radio. Few recordings were made for Polydor and Pathé Marconi, contributing to her failure to achieve the same level of fame as her colleague Haas. Valmalète has been unjustly overlooked, as demonstrated by the two recently discovered recording sessions for Swiss radio presented here for the first time. Among them is an intriguing interpretation of Schumann’s Carnaval. Additionally, Haas made several appearances at radio studios in Basel and Bern, and these recordings are also being made accessible to a wider audience for the first time.
